For more than twenty years, I lived inside questions no one could answer. My body changed slowly, quietly—just enough to be dismissed, explained away, or attributed to stress, aging, or “normal.” I learned how to keep going while carrying symptoms that didn’t yet have a name. I raised my family, built a life, and learned how to doubt my own instincts because the people I trusted kept telling me nothing was wrong. But something was. I knew it long before medicine was ready to say it out loud.

When the diagnosis finally came, it landed with a weight I wasn’t prepared for: a brain tumor and a rare disease that had been shaping my life for decades without my consent. There was relief in finally knowing I wasn’t imagining it—but there was also grief for the years lost to delay, dismissal, and silence. That moment didn’t just change my medical chart. It changed how I understood listening, authority, and what it costs when people aren’t believed.

Unbroken grew out of that reckoning. It is the foundation of everything I write now. What began as my own attempt to make sense of a long, quiet unraveling became something larger when others began trusting me with their stories—patients, caregivers, and families who had waited too long, just like I had. This book is not only about illness. It’s about time, truth, and the strength it takes to keep living when answers come late. I wrote it with care, restraint, and deep respect for every voice inside it—because being heard, after so long, changes everything.
